WIPAC

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is a research center in the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It is built on the success of the UW–Madison-led IceCube Neutrino Observatory but has several innovative projects exploring the Universe from the South Pole in Antarctica and Parque Nacional Pico de Orizaba, Mexico.

WIPAC is supported by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but projects receive major funding from national and international sources, in particular the National Science Foundation.

WIPAC researchers and staff cover a spectrum of disciplines. Particle physicists, engineers, computer scientists, IT professionals, and more are needed to build major research facilities and analyze the massive amounts of data that come from them.

The researcher center has many missions, and some of the main ones are to educate and train future leaders in particle astrophysics and engage the public and students of all ages though educational projects. By sending WIPAC physicists, including students and post-doctoral researchers to interact with the public, we are meeting the science programming needs of Wisconsin communities while providing important experiences to our team.
