Platteville, WI: Jan 29-30

Bringing the Universe to Wisconsin at University of Wisconsin-Platteville (UWP) will start the evening of Tuesday, January 29 in Ullsvik Hall. Together with Continuing Education, Alumni Services, and Foundation, the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) will host a hands-on evening of science beginning at 6:30pm.

The event will take place in Velzy Commons and is designed for all age groups. A twenty-minute overview talk on WIPAC science will be followed by open time to explore “discovery stations” set up around the room, each focusing on a different aspect of South Pole science or particle astrophysics. Stations include ice properties, hot water drilling, computer programming, Antarctic cold weather gear, and extreme phenomena in the Universe.

WIPAC project IceCube Neutrino Observatory is proud to have a history of employing UWP alumni, many of whom will be in town for the events. On Wednesday, January 30, former and current IceCube staff will present at an alumni breakfast event, followed by a visit to second grade classrooms at Westview Elementary.
