UW-Rock County: March 13
On Wednesday, March 13, we’ll be in the Rock County/Evansville area for a few events.
Early in the day, physics graduate student Kyle Jero will be at the Evansville High School during a career day event to talk about working in physics, engineering, and how to land a job at the South Pole. As an undergraduate student, Kyle participated in a cruise on the Swedish icebreaker “Oden,” where he calibrated IceCube equipment as the boat moved from north to south across the equator.
At 12:30pm, Jero will head over the UW-Rock County campus to present “A New View of the Universe from the South Pole” during a brown bag lunch event. He’ll talk about how IceCube is an innovative telescope that uses the ice at the South Pole to search the universe for neutrinos, which are tiny, nearly massless particles.
Bring your lunch, soft drinks and cookies will be provided.
